Not your Usual Pottery Experience!

Please see below pictures to see what you can expect

Only two at a time on the wheels

My sessions are set up differently to most pottery's as I  like to sit next to you while your throwing . over the years i have found by teaching no more than two at a time on the wheel you will learn a lot faster with no frustration . I  have had many people in the studio over the years that have been trying to learn to throw in a big class for a long time but always making the same small mistake that have not been noticed by a teacher in a large group.  I  love seeing the satisfaction on peoples faces when they have success , in the 20 plus years i have been teaching no one has gone away without a finished thrown piece on the wheel . My aim is to have everyone leave the studio with a smile on their face knowing they have succeeded  at a new skill  with  some laughs along the way . I also fire and glaze  EVERYTHING you make unlike alot of studios, even those little snakes and balls the children make that might not seem much to us but are a whole other exciting world  of achievement to them :)

The whole studio to yourselves

I have found that only having one group in at a time  is a totally different experience , you get the whole studio to yourselves giving  you  a lot more relaxed and personal  experience , it also means that you get 100% of my time from the moment you walk through the door!

One to One and 2 people

These sessions can go in what ever direction you want them to ! however with two beginners  it is easier if you both decide to throw or sculpt so i can help on the wheel,  booking one hour you will have time to throw a pot on the wheel and paint it or you can opt for a sculpture hour to make simple forms and tiles . If booking more time the possibilities are endless from large scale throwing and mugs to large scale sculpture , slab work such as a jewellery box or perhaps a thrown piece  that you can then add a sculptural piece too like a mug with a mouse on the handle or a breakfast set of a mug plate and bowl so you can enjoy your creative skills every morning !

When you first get here we will have an informal chat about what you would like to make and go from there, if you have any photos of things you like we can see what is achievable depending on experience but you would be amazed by what you can achieve even when you have never touched clay before ! the pictures above are from  3 hour sessions  for beginners,

If you already know the basics but have something new  you want to  learn or a technique you want to master like glazing or large scale sculpture , then just give me a shout and we can have a chat about how i can help

for 2 or more hours there is usually time for me to get the  drinks and biscuits  out too , don't forget there is a discount for a set of sessions have a look at prices

Group sessions of two to 8 with throwing

we start group sessions with a short demo on sculpting/ slab building and tiles which gives you all the basics for any age to get going in what ever direction you would like, this means you can make small sculptures and slab work which means you can make hand built vases, mugs and boxes, or you might want to make a set of tiles or name plate for your house. basically anything goes and you can make as much as you like in the time you have ! with bigger groups you get a longer session for the same price per person ( please look at pricing) this gives time for everyone to rotate on the wheel  and you find you  can make several hand built pieces in the time.  To give you inspiration there are loads of pieces dotted all around the pottery so you can have a wander around and get inspiration or have a chat with me to help you come up with something., maybe something useful for your house that you can use everyday to remind yourself of your new skill.

When everyone is settled into something to hand build I  get two people at a time to go on the wheel where i sit and help them , I like to teach you as you go along on the wheel as i find breaking it down into sections gives you the success of a finished piece. If anyone hand building needs help I simply pause the people on the wheel , then in between the pairs on the wheel i walk around the group helping people with their sculptures etc,. towards the end of the session the colours come out and everything can be painted or splatted which is a lot of fun!   Drinks and biscuits are always available usually   with longer sessions of 2 or more hours due to  having enough time . If its a special occasion   then you get  a pre thrown plate to all sign to remember the day ( please look at parties for more info )

Groups of 9 to 12

These groups have too many to go on the wheel so its all about hand building , you will all get a short demo on sculpting/ slab building and tiles which gives you all the basics for any age to get going in what ever direction you would like, this means you can make small sculptures, and slab work which  means you can make hand built vases , mugs and boxes. or you might want to make a set of tiles or name plate for your house. basically anything goes and you can make as much as you like in the time you have which is a surprising amount.  To give you inspiration there are loads of pieces dotted all around the pottery so you can have a wander around and get inspiration or have a chat with me to help you come up with something, maybe something useful for your house that you can use everyday to remind yourself of your new skill.  with no one on the wheel you do get the benefit of more help from myself. towards the end the colours come out so you can paint everything . drinks and biscuits are always available too. if its  someone special day  in the group or a couple, then they get to go on the wheel and you can have a pre thrown plate to all sign to remember the day ( please look at parties for more info )
